Ang Langyaw looks back at 2010

Atop the lava front in Albay while covering the Mayon Trail Run. Too bad, Lady Mayon got shy

It was a very fruitful year! 2010 was a major coup in terms of travel for this peripatetic old soul: published in National Geographic, wrote for CNN Go, won the Wandering Juan contest, rounded North Luzon twice, visited enough provinces to make it just six to complete all 79 and a whole lot more!

There were lots of trips, free and personal. Lakbay Norte was just memorable with places that I can’t imagine doing alone. This was then followed up with another North Luzon loop on my own. Macau, my only foreign trip, was stunning and so was my tiring travel from Makati to Cebu via Mindoro by land and sea. Nothing was spared as I even went to Manila Ocean Park.

Cebu Pacific was rather kind with plane tickets plus winning in Wandering Juan Travel Blog contest which garnered me two months free pass in domestic destinations that I visited Roxas, Iloilo, Guimaras, Cebu, Bohol, Camarines Sur, Albay, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Pagadian, Davao City and Isabela.

This year also saw this blog shifting to featuring food in places. I’ve featured The Fort food scene, tasted sumptuous kinalas and Chef Doy’s cooking in Naga City. Went to Davao and had durian coffee, durian fruits galore and siopao. I got to sample Pangasinan’s binungey, twice. Was in Ilocos and ate empanada as well as the halo halo con macaroni in the Cordilleras. And don’t forget batchoy which almost left me broke in Iloilo.

Of course, I was featured and published: foremost is my image of the flagellant as editor’s choice in National Geographic (May 2010) while I got to shoot for Bluprint Magazine twice on three heritage places in Manila. Expat Magazine also highlighted this blog. Living Today, a Pinoy magazine based in Canada also featured two articles and images I did for them.

Online, CNN Go posted my feature on the Boracay Funboard Cup that garnered me a mention at GoodNewsPilipinas. The Guidon, FlipNomad and the Sole Sisters travel blogs also wrote about me. Team Manila also included Langyaw in their travel themed exhibition at the SM Mall of Asia. I initiated the Pinoy Travel Bloggers’s Blog Carnival as well and Langyaw #02: Cuyo, a free photo downloadable PDF magazine was released.

And lastly, a feather in my cap, I was the speaker in the Visayas Blogging Summit held 27 November with the theme Travel Blogging and Photography. Thanx to all who made this possible. More exciting travel happenings in 2011!
