It’s a looker. A tall modern architecture highlighted by mostly blue green glass with a white mesh like design on both sides and white concrete on the rest with the familiar horse emblem and its name.

Marco Polo is a luxury five star hotel in Davao City that offers the traveler or business person the comforts and service that can be considered one of the best in the region. But one has to experience the brand of hospitality and service that the hotel is known for.

For the first time visitor, entering the lobby is a welcome introduction to the unique culture and blend of heritage found in Mindanao and in Davao City. While it doesn’t have the high ceilinged lobby compared to other big name hotels, it’s the details that delights.

An attendant wearing beautiful and colorful tribal wear, from one of Davao’s indigenous group is just there at the lobby ready to provide assistance. The wall behind the front desk is decorate with colorful native woven cloth. At the far end, Patricia Abad’s Bukit Tinggi art work awes with its complexity and skill.

Factors that make guests come back again and again? The luxurious and comfortable suites and the food coupled with great service. I stayed at the Premier City View Suites which offers one of the best views in Davao. At the 15th floor, I can view the city at night from the comfort of my room. Come morning, the glorious vistas of distant Samal Island is memorable. For those who wants a resort feel, their cabana inspired suites are a good alternative.

Food wise? Marco Polo Davao is a foodie destination! They’ve got the best ciabatta I’ve tasted and more at Polo Bistro as well as sumptuous chicken rice with abalone sauce at the Lotus Court. For mornings, Cafe Marco has a good breakfast buffet selection.

The Deck at the fourth level have additional services and amenities. A professionally managed spa, Lazuli, as well as a gym can be found here. Beside Polo Bistro is the pool lounge that, at night gives a good view of the building. Function rooms are also found at the lower floors for those conferences and meetings.
