Amethyst Boutique Hotel, a hidden gem in Cebu

One of the best staycations I had in Cebu City, Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu is a hidden gem!

I’ve been passing by this unassuming hotel whenever I travel between V. Rama and Osmena Boulevard and have always wondered how it is to stay here. Well, last Holy Tuesday, I had an opportunity to finally experience this beautiful boutique hotel in Cebu!

Good design, memorable scent

Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu is a homegrown brand that is beautifully and tastefully designed. It has a welcoming lobby, 52 beautiful and comfortable rooms and suites, and great food from a very experienced chef at the hotel’s Anton’s Restaurant. Meeting rooms are also available with seating capacities of 10-100.

Friendly staff greets you upon entering the lobby. A unique and memorable signature scent also envelopes your senses. This pleasing fragrance has been created specifically for this hotel. It’s a soothing and light fragrance with notes of lavender and lilac derived from natural and organic oils. Displayed also are different crystals and gemstones that add color and interest. As they say, these emit positive energy good for one’s well being.

Location, location, location

The location is good, its just beside the Cebu Provincial Capitol, a beautiful and stately edifice built in 1937. Despite that its at a major road, traffic is not loud nor congested. Fuente Osmena, malls, restaurants, cafes and convenience stores are nearby. Public transport is also readily available allowing you to visit the old downtown quarter of Cebu City. It’s where the historic Minor Basilica of Sto Nino is located and Colon Street too, the oldest in the country.

The boutique hotel is a good base to explore as public transport terminals to provincial destinations are nearby. Its location also permits one to bypass heavy traffic if you wish to travel via private transport. This is especially convenient if you want to go to the beautiful beaches, old churches and tourist spots.

I love my room!

This staycation was a very welcome change of environment and scenery with great views of the city. I can just open the curtains and stare at the world below me with the floor to ceiling glass windows. The bed is just so comfortable and the pillows snug. The comfort room is bright and spacious with that beautiful and modern lighted mirror that you turn on with a touch of a finger. In room wifi is also reliable.

I opted to have my ala carte breakfast in the room, a hefty serving of tocino, corned beef and omelet paired with brewed coffee while looking outside the window while it drizzled. It was just relaxing. A wet morning, raindrops streaming down the glass panels while vehicles pass by in front.

The Amethyst Suite is perhaps the best accommodation for the family. At 146 sq meters, it is a two level, loft type, three bedroom suite that feels more like a high end and cozy condo unit than a hotel suite! Other than this, it has seven more room types ranging from single to the junior suite at 13-30 square meters.

Crystal, the disinfecting workhorse of Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu

We’ve been in this pandemic since last year and Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu takes your well being seriously. Crystal, as it’s affectionately called, is the hardworking disinfecting machine that keeps this boutique hotel clean and germ/virus free. The machine is a fully automatic Raze CoV UVC Disinfecting System. It uses ultraviolet germicidal irradiation light that deactivates the DNA of bacteria and RNA of viruses. In this way, you have peace of mind whenever you’re staying here. The device disinfects the surfaces and air after each guest stay. This is perhaps the only hotel in Cebu that uses this very sophisticated system.

The boutique hotel also observes approved safety protocols. The elevator has strategically located alcohol dispensers and is only for a limited number of people. Guests are encouraged to observe social distancing and wear masks and face shields.

Is Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu worth the stay?

YES! I can only gush at what I have experienced. From the level of friendly and professional service, great food, high degree of comfort, location and all these at a rate that is well worth it.

Crystal, the affectionately named UVC Disinfecting System that is keeping the rooms of Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu free from harmful bacteria and viruses, giving you piece of mind that whenever you stay here, you’re well protected especially during this pandemic. This device is perhaps, the only one of its kind in Cebu.

The different kinds of crystals and gemstones at the lobby of Amethyst Boutique Hotel Cebu. I was told that Chinese guests, whenever they pass by these stones, put their faces closer, perhaps for the supposed positive energy that these exude.
The wide view across my room with its floor to ceiling glass windows that lets in more light which I just love! At the left is a portion of the historic Cebu Provincial Capitol built in 1937.
