Novotel Siam Executive room is highly recommended when staying at the Siam Square area of Bangkok. Why? Read on.
I’ve been in and out of Thailand’s bustling capital, Bangkok for the past three years after having last visited it around fifteen years ago. And I know how it is to be in this city: can be tiring at times especially if you spend all day exploring the city. But I’ve always gravitated to the Siam Square area. It’s a center for business, leisure and shopping with the efficient BTS in the center of big shopping malls.
At one side are the mega shopping meccas consisting of Siam Discovery, Siam Center and Siam Paragon. opposite is Siam Square and several smaller and independent shops. Near the terminus of the BTS is MBK, another popular shopping destination for the budget conscious. If you want culture, there’s the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC) which I visit from time to time because of the interesting exhibits and program. Wanting green open space? The Chulalongkorn University grounds is perfect. Looking for something spiritual? Wat Pathum Wanaram is just between Siam Paragon and Central World. And a myriad food places around this area.
And that is why Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square, also known as Novotel Siam is a highly recommended place to stay. Location wise, it’s just a few minutes walk from the Siam BTS and Siam Square. But not just any other room at the hotel. If you can afford it, the Executive rooms, specifically at the Premier floor is worth the stay.
The special glass of the bathroom that goes almost opaque by the flick of a switch for privacy
My Novotel Siam Executive Room
Located at the 16th floor, my 30 sqm room is spacious and has great views of the city. It has a king sized bed, muted color palette with splashes of interesting details at the headboard and at the day bed. I love the comfortable bed and pillows makes for great relaxation after a day’s tour. I have to confess that at the second day, I just felt lazy going out and spent most of the morning lying on the bed and at times, admiring the view of the city. The room also has a work desk, perfect for a freelancer like me.
But there’s one impressive thing in the Executive floor at the Premier floor, the toilet. Why? If you’ve seen the video above, you will know. With just a flick of the switch, you can use the bathroom with some privacy. but… especially if you are with your love one, you can really get creative and fulfill those bedroom fantasies. Hahaha. Also, and I should mention this, Novotel hotels use fair trade toiletries, as I’ve also seen these in the Cubao branch as well. Turn down sweets is also served.
Staying at the Premier floor
Booking a stay at the Premier floor has several perks. First, you have access to the Premier Lounge which not only affords you private check-in and check-out, you also have access to its facilities like the business center and board rooms. Buffet spread that includes breakfast, all day refreshments and evening cocktails. Yeah, the evening cocktails. Has a good small bites and cocktail/drinks selection.
Speaking of breakfast, I tried eating at The Square, the main restaurant of the hotel and where breakfast are open to all but at that time, there were several guests and it can get chaotic and noisy and sometimes, finding a table can be difficult. That’s why, breakfast at the Premier Lounge is better. it’s quieter, the food has almost the same selection as the bigger restaurant but you can always order other breakfast items.
Other amenities
Although the hotel is almost three decades old, the lower rooms are currently being refurbished and renovated. The redesign of the Premier floor as well as the expansive lobby, however, has been finished already, with the latter, amazingly done. It is chic and modern, targeted for business and leisure with several charging stations. What’s more, Novotel Siam’s Gourmet Bar, a new F&B outlet offers 24 hour dining and offers delicious Thai and International dishes. Lok Wa Hin, another restaurant across The Square and voted Best Chinese Restaurant in Bangkok for the past 14 years offers exciting Chinese dishes and desserts.
The hotel has also a big pool, said to be the biggest in Siam Square compared to other hotels in the area, a reason that it can get crowded during weekends and holidays. There’s a gym and Tammachart Spa too for fitness and relaxation. Novotel Siam also offers meeting and events venue with The Gallery, The Library and Premier Cru at the Premier Lounge.
Thanx to Novotel Siam for the well needed staycation.
