I smiled and let out a WOW! when I entered my assigned bedroom suite at the Discovery Shores in Boracay. After an overnight trip from Batangas and a rather hectic travel schedule the previous weeks, I badly needed a break. But if not for a short magazine assignment in this resort island, I would just have stayed indoors and rested.
Discover Shores in Boracay is one of those resort hotels in Station 1 along White Beach that just looks perfect for an escape. It’s generally white contemporary minimalist design blends well with its environment with amenities for comfort and a relaxing stay. And this extends to the private spaces like the one bedroom suite where I stayed in.
The suite room was just gorgeous. It’s big, at around 45 sq. meters in floor area with wide windows and white walls that makes it bright with minimal use of lights during the day. It has a small veranda that gives you a view of the pool area and opposite building. The king sized bed is comfortable with ample pillows and lighting accents that make for a cozy stay at night.
The toilet and bath is also minimalist and modern with the sink stocked with ample toiletries. Compared with other hotels, Discovery Shores doesn’t scrimp on these as the shampoo, lotion, bath gels come in bigger sizes, bigger than those I’ve used in other five star hotels.
Complementary mineral water, tea and coffee is well stocked at a counter top while books and magazines are neatly arranged at the headboard. Across the bed is a sofabed and a couch where you will have your complementary foot bath. A wall mounted LED TV, some decors perpendicular and near the glass sliding door to the veranda.
Other than the setup, I really have to mention the little things that matter! First, the welcome sweets was interesting: bite sized pastries and dessert with a welcome greeting written in sweet colorful syrup. I did like the hint of sourness and went well with the dessert. There’s also two jars of chocolate chip cookies and dried papaya which I loved so much that I consumed it in one sitting!
On my last night, they gave me a thank you plate written with the same colorful sweet syrup with a small pretty box of chocolate truffles! However, there’s one really good treat that is only offered as an afternoon snack: very luscious and silky maja blanca, one of the best I’ve tasted. It’s delicate and smooth that reminded me of the tibok-tibok in Angeles City. Too bad, you can’t order it at the restaurant.
