This budget hotel in Cebu is a clean and minimalist space tucked in a quiet place just near the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge. The Pocket Hotel, managed by Oyo is one of those unassuming small hotels that I like and a good base to stay or as transit hotel for an onward flight.
A budget hotel in Cebu
I’ve long wanted to try The Pocket Hotel in Cebu for a staycation as I like the pictures that I have seen at a booking app. It’s affordable, rooms can be as low as 800 pesos, depending on the day, in booking sites.
It has just 12 rooms with three room types: a dorm room, Deluxe, and Superior. The dorm type room has bunk beds and can accommodate 2 (PHP1,500) or 4 (PHP2,200) persons. The deluxe (PHP1,500) and superior (PHP1,800) rooms are good for two persons. Both rooms have double and queen sized beds, respectively. There are artworks both at the lobby, stairs and rooms. Beds are comfortable as well as the plush pillows.
I like that it has a minimalist, yet spacious and clean rooms, bare concrete floors that lends it a semi industrial vibe. No cabinets here but there’s a clothes rack with hangers, a small table and a personal ref. Water is not provided but they have a water dispenser that costs PHP5 per cup. Which is a bit expensive. I would rather buy mineral water from the many carinderias just a walking distance from here.
Location
What I like about this small hotel is that its just near the first bridge and just 3.7 kilometers from the Mactan Cebu International Airport. It’s within a compound just perpendicular with the Pajo Barangay Hall. If you’re commuting, it’s a short walk to the jeepney terminal infront of Gaisano Metro. Along the main road, there are lots of local eateries for cheap food. It’s also readily accessible to Pueblo Verde, Opon Church that are just a short ride away. There’s also a PNB bank nearby.
When I went here, I just took a modern airconditioned jeep from Parkmall, alighted around a hundred meters from the end of the Mandaue-Mactan bridge and around 20 meters walk to the hotel.
Should you stay at The Pocket Hotel?
If you’re looking for a no frills hotel near the airport, The Pocket Hotel is an ideal place to stay. It’s cheap, clean and very accessible. My only complaint here was that the small window didn’t have blinds which would have blocked the afternoon sun. Other than that, I did love my stay at this small budget hotel in Cebu.
