It’s clean and affords you the privacy you need at a budget, this space capsule hotel in Kota Kinabalu is highly recommended.
I have to confess. I don’t like staying in hostels. I’m not just comfortable sleeping in a dorm room with complete strangers. That’s why, I always go for a hotel room. But if budget or time is scarce, then I will go for a capsule hotel. Not just any other capsule hotel like the one I first tried in Tokyo, for that matter, but a space capsule hotel. And I’ve stayed in these in Kuala Lumpur as well as in Yogyakarta.
What is a space capsule hotel?
It’s basically a sleeping pod. But unlike the usual capsule hotels out there, it’s in a futuristic design, although its made of plastic. It has a sliding door that you open with a key card, just like what you use in a typical hotel. You can lock the door, adjust the lighting, light color, or turn on/off the reading lights. There’s a large mirror too with a ring light and best f all, it’s airconditioned and spacious.

When I traveled to Kota Kinabalu for a few days, and as I was on a budget, I opted to book at the Space Cap Hotel. It’s cheap and well appointed. Although it has no mini TV compared to the one I got in Kuala Lumpur, it was clean and comfortable. You’re also provided with a locker where I place most of my things but I have my day pack with me inside the capsule. Like hostels, it has shared bathrooms and toilets which are clean too. Staff is friendly and there’s a receiving as well as reading area where you can hang out.
This space capsule hotel in Kota Kinabalu is just located at the Central Business District and a few minutes walk to the popular markets near the sea as well as to Gaya Street where the weekend market is. There are lots of restaurants.
