I got excited upon seeing the urban landscape that is Bangkok from the glass windows of Altitude, Westin Bangkok’s rooftop function space at the 25th floor. But more so when Nicole led me to the terrace overlooking downtown. I got exhilarated and gazed at the spread of buildings and structures built in various times, in different sizes and different design.
I went to the triangular viewdeck that gives you a better view below and marveled at the beautiful scenery. It was rather overcast and a looming rain cloud was edging its way into the city from the west. But the light was dramatic, moody while buildings from afar became silhouettes.
I love urban landscapes and the Bangkok skyline is so much different from what we have in Manila. Here, tall buildings are spread afar unlike in the latter wherein commercial districts are like islands among a sea of residential housing. The long stretch of BTS tracks cuts through this urban jungle cleanly.
At night, after finishing our sumptuous dinner of European seafood at Seasonal Tastes, we went to the terrace of Zest Bar (8th floor) and it was just marvelous. Busy Asok at night. Citylights. Terminal 21 is brightly lit while the BTS skytrain comes and goes.

And this is why I love the Westin Bangkok viewdecks, be it at the Altitudes or at Zest Bar. While skybars are the rage in this city, located at several floors up giving you a birds eye view of a wide expanse, Westin’s viewdecks are lower and gives you a better and intimate view of the city. Up close.

Hi,
I think we met in TBEX, and you told me that you wanted to visit Indonesia.
Seeing how you like taking pictures of city skylines, I think you would be pretty occupied in Jakarta when you do come visit 😀
Hi Vira, yes, I remember. I need to go there soonest! 🙂
