Luxurious comfort at a Westin Bangkok suite

The bed. The lush carpeting. The mildly but pleasingly fragrant leaf shaped soap. Funny how these small things, little things that one tend to just overlook especially in a very busy and vibrant city like Bangkok can be interesting and make me notice. And these little things, among many other aspects made my stay at Westin Bangkok’s deluxe room memorable.

It has been 15 years since I’ve last been to Bangkok and coming back to this city has been kind of a surprise with so much changes that for the eleven days I was visiting, I had a lot of things to catch up. It is frenetic and beautiful, has so much to offer and exploring its cement jungle, airconditioned malls and trying out streetfood can be draining. And that’s the reason why I really loved my stay at Westin Bangkok.

At the end of the day, when I’m tired and all that walking, pollution and humidity is making me haggard, I can always refresh, recharge and relax at my room.

The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is one of the trusted luxury hotels in Bangkok and has been a reliable home away from home for the past 30 years. And with newly refurbished suites, its still one of the best there is. It has a great location, at the heart of the business district. It is in the middle of busy Asok, a stone’s throw away from the MRT and BTS station. Just a few steps from its doorstep is Terminal 21 and other shopping malls and great dining options.

But I can’t help but write a specific post to the suite room where I was staying. More than just enjoying the amenities offered in hotels, the room, the sanctum sanctorum, is the most important part of the hotel experience.

Westin Bangkok’s deluxe rooms range from 40-45 square meters, rather spacious and that’s the first thing that I notice. But after putting down my bag and taking off my shoes, it was the lush carpeting that I can’t forget. The feel is great to my feet, soft and clean and I actually liked walking barefoot while in the room. It’s perfect after a long day’s walk on hard cement.

But its the bed, Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed that really made an impression. The first time I arrived, I didn’t touch it as I will be photographing the space but, wow, the feel of the covers, the softness of the pillows. I really don’t know how to describe it but it just feels so right. And climbing to bed the first night, I just had to tweet:

Now, I know why it’s called Heavenly Bed.

Of course, the amenities are standard but while most other luxury hotels give you a bar of soap, Westin Bangkok has its own White Tea bath amenities and I especially like the leaf like soap! Mildly fragrant and I just had to bring (shhh…) two of these.

The daybed by the window is also comfortable but I was working at the glass desk most of the time. Or climb to the bed and just feel luxurious comfort. Had fruits and I gobbled up the longan and passion fruit which is rather sweet/sour unlike the ones from Baguio that are really sweet. They have a big 37 inch LCD TV but as always, I just leave it off when I’m in hotels.

Overall, staying at Westin Sukhumvit’s deluxe room is one of the best that I’ve experienced and while amenities are standard, its the Heavenly Bed, and those other small things that I mentioned really made my stay memorable.
