Ruing on my supposed Negros/Iloilo sojourn, 3

map_iloilo_negros.gif While I have been to this island sporadically, it is still not enough to familiarize me with the many wonderful things that the province has to offer. Below are additional photos from La Carlota and Villadolid, Negros Occidental. These are towns south of Bacolod.

The imposing late 19th century church in La Carlota (above). Its massiveness is really impressive. Like the churches in Bago City and Villadolid, it seems that the belfries doesn’t last as either these are gone or, as in the case of this church, its not original.

A fisherman trawling the shallows late in the afternoon in Villadolid. Just along the highway, this is a common scene just before the sun sets.

An owner readying his bird for an impromptu cockfight in his backyard in Villadolid. Games like these are usually done to train their cocks for a major derby.

Seeing the pic of a tricycle fully loaded with passengers bring back great memories during my high school days in la carlota city. I can still remember whenever me and my other 7 classmates would ride this tricycle in going home. We always have fun though sometimes it’s kind of dangerous knowing that the tricycle is overloaded. Still, it’s one of my high school memories that i really cherish. Thanks for posting these pics of my beloved city.

  2. good thing you didn’t catch the “Our Lady of Peace Church” in the late 80’s to early 90’s when the bellfries top were painted a hideous light blue 🙂

it’s Valladolid (not Villadolid). Nice blog, thank you for promoting our Philippines.
