An unexpected but good resort in Lake Buhi

One of the most memorable trips that I made this year was when I visited and stayed for a few nights in Lake Buhi in Camarines Sur, home of the sinarapan. It’s one of those magical places that, once you discover it, enchants and awes. I was there by myself and I see it as a great family or friend bonding destination or just to commune with nature and reflect on your life. Its peaceful, calm and still has enough surprises, from food to natural attractions that makes the trip worthwhile. But where to stay in Lake Buhi?

Lake Buhi Resort, with its spacious rooms, good local food, clean spaces and helpful staff and owner made the stay more memorable. It’s that kind of resort that has good amenities in an equally beautiful place. Comfort is not sacrificed but instead, enhances one’s experiences.

Although the town is a first class municipality and partially urban, what I did love about the place, especially at the Lake Buhi Resort area was the laidback lifestyle, slow pace and the daily tedium marked by life within Lake Buhi. And this what makes the resort interesting: you either experience the full spectrum of Lake Buhi life by engaging with locals, or watch by the sides as life happens, a day climbs to night and observe at the sidelines. Whichever you like.

The resort, at first can feel daunting. It’s just quite different from the other structures along the road. The gates are massive and the main resort building that I love to call The Mansion can be intimidating. But once you get past the main door, climb its spiral staircase, or walk the resort grounds, you’ll just feel at home.

One can opt for either a suite inside The Mansion or at one of two duplex villas. There’s a swimming pool too, restaurant as well as a fishpond with bamboo corrals where one can fish, for a fee and have the catch cooked. The walkway around the corrals are also great vantage points for observing Lake Buhi.

There is a standby generator in case there’s a power interruption, which happened in my case and I wasn’t disappointed. While there is wifi signal within the resort premises, the service provider can be unreliable at times but the staff lent me their plug it mobile broadband internet. However, because of the distance from the main town, which is at another portion of the river, 3G internet can be had better near the pool and restaurant.

My suite was located at the second floor of the main resort building with a veranda that opens to a great view of Mt. Asog that stands just above the resort. A double bed with comfortable pillows and mattress greatly made my stay worthwhile.

As I look back, I did enjoy my stay in Lake Buhi Resort and felt I was there on a holiday than for work.
