After frolicking in the sand and swimming in crystal clear waters, of course, the next thing that you decide to do is eat. And you just don’t settle for cheap eateries. What is a vacation in Boracay if you don’t have good, no, great food then? A great vacation entails indulging in the best the island has to offer.

Discovery Shores is not only known for its Filipino hospitality and top accommodations, it’s restaurants also serve great comfort food that is world class. Perhaps, it has one of the best dining destinations in Boracay and there are several to chose from.

Sands Restaurant is al fresco dining that gives you great views of the famous white sand and stunning waters of White Beach. While the menu has a good selection, it’s the Filipino cuisine that makes for a memorable dining experience.

I did love the baby calamares in spicy seasoning. Dip it in its mango-calamansi vinaigrette and its a medley of wonderful texture and flavors exploding in your mouth that you would want to have the whole plate all to yourself. The grilled prawns are fresh and sweet, so delicious that I managed to eat four. Burp.

But what made my lunch here good? The wonderful, flavorful soup of the tinolang halaan. Perhaps it was nostalgia that endeared me much to this dish. I love the taste of lemongrass and the delicate texture of the clams. It was childhood lunches all over again as I was savoring the homecooked goodness of the broth. So good that I have to apologise to my hosts and get another, and another cupful and praising its tastiness.

Sands is also where you have buffet breakfast by the sea. I loved the porridge with century eggs and minced scallions and freshly cracked peppercorns. The semi-runny omelet with everything in it and melting salty butter on hot toast. Incomparable. Breezy. Sunshine.

As dusk sets in, Indigo Restaurant is the best place to impress as well as savor the island cuisine. It’s not a lightweight even, having been listed in Philippine Tatler’s Best Restaurants (twice) and shortlisted, again, twice, in the prestigious Miele Guide. If you don’t know what to order, they have set menus that assures you of great tasting dishes.

Other than these two main restaurants, they also have sundown offerings called Platitos, or small plates or if you decide to have have drink, the sandbar and pool bar has several selections. Here at Discovery Shores, you can enjoy world class cuisine or the best of Filipino homecooked dishes by the sea.

Breakfast buffet is sumptuous and filling! This is just one side, the heavier breakfast of cured meats, eggs, rice and the rest are on the other side.

  1. I love calamares. There is something with this oily goodness combined with the sourness of vinegar that is just perfect.
