Charming Bulingan Falls in Lamitan City

The first time I saw Bulingan Falls was online and I marvelled at its rock formations.

Many think twice of visiting Basilan because of the notorious Abu Sayyaf. Yes, they still exist, unfortunately but it doesn’t mean that you should not visit. As what locals say, stay in city centers like Isabela City or Lamitan. Although its still possible to go to other parts, they would not advise it.

Lamitan has often been part of the Abu Sayyaf stories. Yes, there was a major encounter several years before but the city has become so busy with its own development with several many buildings being constructed. For the tourist, after a tour of the city and a frolic at Calugusan Beach, you should head to its charming cascade, Bulingan Falls.

It doesn’t have the height of Katibawasan Falls. Nor the side expanse of Tinuy-an Falls. In fact, it’s just low, not more than 10 meters high. But it’s wide enough and its wow factor? Beautiful rock formations that looks like stone posts assembled together. It recalls Cathedral Falls in Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur but the rocks are in gradual ascent.

I did not bathe in the waters as time was short but edges of the waterfalls has been cemented and a part of the runoff has been partially blocked to store in a part of the water. Although I don’t agree on this kind of development that LGUs often commit, I was glad the waterfalls’s cascade and its beautiful rock formations were left untouched.

NOTE: If you want to visit Bulingan Falls or tour Lamitan, better to coordinate first with the city tourism office. This is a MUST.
