A worthy budget hotel (with pool) in Cebu City

A budget hotel in Cebu City with a pool? I was a bit surprised to find out that this new hotel along Osmeña Boulevard has one at the rooftop, albeit small but nonetheless, it’s an interesting offer for a price point that is quite affordable.

Nice interiors, great location

Express In Osmeña is one of three properties in the cities of Cebu and Lapulapu. Although I’ve stayed at the Mabolo branch years ago, this one, I think is better. First, the room interior is modern, minimalist and good color scheme. There’s a bit of an industrial touch because of the exposed concrete, the grey tone complimenting the green. A wooden headboard gives it textural contrast while the bed cover in earthtone. The colorful cloth across the bed gives it a striking but welcome contrast to the overall theme. Although the bed is not as soft as I expected it to be, it’s actually comfortable.

Location wise, this budget hotel in Cebu City is quite well appointed. Built along the main thoroughfare, Osmeña Boulevard, its right smack in the center with lots of transportation options from taxis to jeeps whether you’re going to the Basilica del Sto Nino or going to the iconic Cebu Capitol or commuting to SM City or Ayala Center. Downtown Colon St. is just walking distance, different restaurants and fastfood chains, universities, banks and convenience stores are a few steps away. For those looking for hotels during the Sinulog, it’s location is along the Sinulog procession route and just a few meters across the Abellana grandstand where the judging and main dance showdown and presentation is done.

Rooftop, pool and breakfast

As I mentioned earlier, this budget hotel in Cebu City has a small pool and it is located at the rooftop, just beside the restaurant with alfresco area. It has great views of the city. Hotel stays usually includes a simple and plated breakfast of eggs, either rice or bread and either fish or chicken or luncheon meat. You then have a choice of coffee or juice. Quite limited though but I think its enough for the price. A live band also plays at specific evenings.

Although a welcome budget addition to hotels in Cebu City, I do have a complaint when it comes to the wifi. I had difficulty registering with their access code and had to go connect by the door. Initially, it was fast but for the rest of the stay, was crappy and unstable. If you’re okay with that, then Express Inn Osmeña will be a good choice.
