Leona's Cakes & Pastries

Good coffee & cakes at a great price at my favorite Cebu cake shop

It’s habit forming. But whenever I pass by SM Seaside City mall enroute to my shoot whenever I am in Cebu, or on the way back, I have been dropping by Leona’s most of the time. Many times. Lately. If not to have coffee and a slice of cake, its egg tart or their turnovers. Or their baked goods for a snack. The choice is varied and what’s best? It’s not that expensive. With many multinational and national cafes setting up shop in Cebu, here’s a home grown gourmet bakery that can stand among the best in the city.

Leona’s has been around for 15 years. And we always make it a point to buy their cakes during the Noche Buena and Media Noche celebrations of Christmas and New Year. It’s that good and reliable in terms of taste and quality. Now, it has grown with five branches in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue. But it was two months ago that I dropped by SM Seaside City mall. Most of the time, I ride the MyBus and it has stops at this mall. Once, I passed by their shop, was hungry and decided to have coffee and some snacks. I was looking at the cake options but when I tried the egg tart and turnovers? I was a convert!

Layered pastries is I think one of the tricky ones to prepare that’s why when I first tasted the egg tart and turnovers, I loved it’s crispness and flakiness. The custard was creamy and not overly sweet while the turnover filling, I usually either have the chicken or tuna, is well flavored. And these are mostly what I order. The coffee, a small cup at just P40 is simple yet full of body. And once in a while, a slice of any of their cakes or cheesecakes.

What about you? Have you tried Leona’s in Cebu before?
